China experienced a drastic slowdown in new energy vehicle (NEV) output and sales in September after authorities cracked down on subsidy scams, the latest industry data showed.

A total of 43,000 NEVs - pure electric cars and hybrid electric cars - were produced in September, up 25.7% year on year, while sales increased 43.8% to 44,000, according to figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
